Drywall Disposal: Understanding Asbestos Requirements
Disposing of drywall requires specific safety protocols due to the potential presence of asbestos—a hazardous material found in many older construction products. At our facility, we enforce a clear process to protect the safety of both our customers and staff.
Drywall from 1990 or Newer
If your drywall was manufactured in 1990 or later, asbestos testing is generally not required. However, you must present the drywall to our scale attendant with two visible date stamps to verify its age. Once confirmed, the attendant will complete a quick pre-screening form with you.
Drywall Older Than 1990 (or Undated)
For drywall that is older than 1990 or lacks visible date stamps, asbestos testing is mandatory prior to arriving at our yard. A copy of the official test results must be provided to the scale attendant for our records (we can photocopy your physical document, or you can email an electronic copy). Once negative test results are confirmed, disposal proceeds as standard.
